Best Bacon 2011
New Zealand's best bacon in 2011 was produced by a Christchurch butchery.
Ashby's Butchery won The Cabernet Foods Ltd 100% New Zealand Bacon of the Year award, taking home the Supreme award for Corey Winder's gold-winning Dry Cured Middle Bacon, as well as collecting gold in the Middle Bacon category.
Judges described the winning bacon as having all the attributes required of great bacon, with a fine balance of curing and delicate smoke.
